What is Ulcerative Colitis?
Ulcerative colitis is an inflammatory bowel condition that causes irritation in the large intestine, mostly in the last part of the large intestine or colon, and rectum. This chronic condition is aggravated by stress and can cause severe symptoms such as pain, diarrhea and bleeding.
Ulcerative Colitis Symptoms
Ulcerative colitis symptoms can vary between individuals. The most common symptoms are diarrhea and abdominal pain and bloating. The following is a list of symptoms associated with UC.
• Pain in the abdomen and cramping
• Diarrhea
• Blood in the stools
• Bloating and gas
• Inability to absorb and digest nutrients from food
• Weight loss
• Painful and inflamed joints
• Skin rashes
• Fatigue
Ulcerative Colitis Treatments
Thankfully we can treat Ulcerative colitis with much success naturally. The following is a list of natural treatments for UC.
1. Omega 3 fatty acids – high quality fish oil supplements are natural anti-inflammatories and help decrease inflammation in the digestive tract and rest of the body. The oils also act as natural lubricants for the stool, thereby minimizing irritation along the colon walls. To learn more about the best fish oil supplement, click here.
2. Probiotics- individuals with UC have been found to be deficient in probiotics, or friendly flora. High potency probiotics like VitaTree Probiotics are necessary to re-colonize the small and large intestine in individuals with UC. For more info on the benefits of probiotics click here.
3. Diet- People with UC or other inflammatory bowel conditions need to alter their diets to minimize the culprits that cause inflammation. I recommend minimizing red meats, alcohol, refined carbohydrates and dairy products. Coffee can also be too harsh for chronic and acute inflammatory bowel diseases and should be avoided.
4. Stress reduction- I’ve not yet met a person with UC who didn’t have serious stress issues and an imbalanced approach to relieving stress and anxiety. I find these individuals “swallow” their emotions and have difficulty speaking up for themselves. Stress reduction is essential as well as learning techniques to express themselves appropriately. Natural stress formulas are available. Supplements for people with UC should always be whole food supplements, as conventional synthetic vitamins and minerals can be very harsh on the digestive tract. For more info on whole food supplements for stress and sleep, click here.
5. Marshmallow tea – this can be purchased at the health food store and drink 1 cup, three times a day, on an empty stomach.

Natural Treatments for Back Pain During Pregnancy

Jun 27th, 2012 Posted in Uncategorized | Comments Off on Natural Treatments for Back Pain During Pregnancy

Pregnancy is such a wonderful time in a woman’s life. It is a time of creation and allowing her body to do what it is meant to in the most natural way possible. Unfortunately, a number of women suffer from back pain during pregnancy due to the laxity in the ligaments and tendons that can allow the bones and muscles to shift out of place ever so slightly, causing pain. The following are some helpful tips for women suffering from back pain during pregnancy.

1. Exercise- Exercise helps to keep tone in the muscles that are needed to support the lower back. Gravity changes during the pregnancy cause different forces to be placed on new areas, especially the low back. Walking, swimming and lifting light weights are great ways to keep the muscles toned.

2. Stretching- This helps to keep the areas that accumulate tension more relaxed and stretched out. If you can find a prenatal yoga class this is ideal because you will learn the most effective stretches for pregnancy.

3. Fish Oil- A natural anti-inflammatory, fish oil supplements are helpful at keeping the overall inflammation down in the body. For an added benefit, a fish oil supplement high in DHA is your best bet because this is essential for the development of the baby’s nervous system and brain. VitaFish Oil is the best fish oil supplement available because it is high in DHA, tastes great, and has no fishy taste or aftertaste. So if you are suffering from nausea during pregnancy, this fish oil supplement will not bother you. For more info visit www.vitatree.com.

Infertility Blog – Natural Solutions

Jun 8th, 2012 Posted in alternative medicine, Detoxification, Digestive blogs, Infertility, Nutrition, Uncategorized, vitamins, weight loss, Whole food vitamins, women's health | Comments Off on Infertility Blog – Natural Solutions

Both men and women who are having difficulties with infertility are looking for natural solutions. Naturopathic care and whole food supplements are a proven method to either work alone, or alongside conventional medical approaches to treating infertility. I’ve chosen to write this infertility blog to help educate couples about the efficacy of detoxifying the body preconception, and also giving the mom and dad the proper nutrients before conception to increase their chances of having a healthy pregnancy and baby.

Cleansing and detoxification are a must before conception to increase the chances of becoming pregnant, but more importantly, to increase the health of the coming baby. Toxins can be stored in both partners for years and have a negative effect on the health of the egg and sperm. DNA changes occur in the presence of toxins and need to be eliminated before conception. When the mom is pregnant, the baby acts as a sponge and takes all the toxins to be processed through its brand new liver, kidneys and digestive tract.

I usually encourage patients to detoxify for at least 3 months, both partners, prior to conception if possible. The product I use with great success is my own formulation, VitaDetox. The revolutionary product helps detoxify the liver, kidneys, lungs, skin, digestive tract, lymphatic system and blood. The dosage is 2 capsules, twice per day, on an empty stomach.

Acupuncture for fertility is very helpful at balancing the CHI, or energy in the body. It helps to allow for healthy conception and pregnancy and minimizes the chances of miscarriage. Acupuncture for the mom to be helps to balance the hormones and relaxes the nervous system.

Whole Food Vitamins
Vitamin and mineral status of parents to be is very important when trying to conceive. I have found nutritional deficiencies in a large number of patients who have difficulty with infertility. I always recommend whole food vitamins to correct the deficiency. Whole food vitamins like VitaFruits and VitaVeggies are made directly from nature’s best nutrients, without any synthetic vitamins or minerals as most other supplements on the market contain. Whole food vitamins are important for fertility to supply the anti-oxidants, phytonutrients and vitamins and minerals needed from a whole food source.

Is it Safe to Detox?

Feb 6th, 2012 Posted in Acid Reflux, acne, adult acne, allergies, alternative medicine, Detoxification, Digestive blogs, health, Nutrition, Uncategorized, vitamins, weight loss, Whole food vitamins, women's health | Comments Off on Is it Safe to Detox?

A number of people have asked me over the years if it is safe to detox. It really does depend on the type of detox protocol that is used and for how long. I always recommend a detoxification protocol that addresses all the internal organs such as the liver, lungs, digestive tract, kidneys and skin. A detox protocol should be gentle, yet effective at cleansing these organs. I do not recommend detoxes specific to only one organ system as you can do more harm than good in this case.

For example, if you choose to do a liver cleanse and your bowels are not eliminating properly, you can run into difficulties because the toxins are being flushed out of the liver and into an organ system that is not efficient. This can be a dangerous situation and is not recommended.

I developed the VitaDetox for VitaTree Nutritionals to eliminate toxins from all the internal at once, to avoid the problem of shifting toxins to an organ that may not be ready to eliminate them. VitaDetox is a formulation that minimizes any of the negative side effects of doing the detox in the first place due to this reason, that it is working on all the organs at once. It is also revolutionary in that it contains whole food anti-oxidants, VitaFruits and VitaVeggies to help quench free radicals during the detox process. This is why VitaDetox works so well and so quickly, without any side effects like diarrhea, gas or cramping.

You need to detox if you have any of the following concerns:

-gas, bloating
-eczema, psoriasis, acne
-PMS, menopausal symptoms
-constipation, diarrhea
-frequent colds/flues
-polycystic ovaries, endometriosis
-difficulty conceiving
-hair loss
-and much more!

VitaTree Probiotics are the most natural, efficient and non irritating way to treat constipation. We have close to 400 or more species of bacteria in our digestive tracts. Some of these organisms are healthy for us, the friendly flora, or probiotics. Others are not. The bad bacteria, viruses and yeast or candida can be a real threat to our digestive function and more importantly, the immune system. It is important to always have sufficient good friendly flora, or probiotics, that are made for the human digestive tract. VitaTree Probiotics is very different because it is made for human digestion, with human microflora. Most other bacteria are made from cow bacteria.
