Skin Health- Hyaluronic Acid is Essential

Feb 24th, 2012 Posted in alternative medicine, Detoxification, Digestive blogs, health, Nutrition, vitamins, weight loss, Whole food vitamins, women's health | Comments Off on Skin Health- Hyaluronic Acid is Essential

Hyaluronic acid is a glycosaminoglycan, or GAG that helps retain moisture beneath the skin surface, and helps adhere collagen and elastin. Hyaluronic acid depletes as we age, and sun exposure rapidly degrades it. Natural dietary changes can help maintain healthy hyaluronic acid levels, as well as some supplements.

Estrogen helps maintain hyaluronic acid. Supplements that balance hormones such as VitaWomen’s Formula can help maintain healthy estrogen levels, as well as skin elasticity due to hyaluronic acid.

Soy products also maintain estrogen levels and can also help maintain skin elasticity due to hyaluronic acid.

Magnesium is essential for hyaluronic acid production. Foods naturally high in magnesium include: nuts and seeds like almonds, sunflower and sesame seeds, brazil nuts, cocoa, blackstrap molasses and soybeans.

Silica, an important mineral helps anchor in the GAG’s and hyaluronic acid in the skin. It is naturally occuring in the herb horsetail, and concentrated in the VitaTree Hair, Skin and Nails Formula.

Feeling Blue? Are you Deficient in Vitamin D3?

Feb 23rd, 2012 Posted in alternative medicine, Detoxification, Digestive blogs, health, Nutrition, Uncategorized, vitamins, weight loss, Whole food vitamins, women's health | Comments Off on Feeling Blue? Are you Deficient in Vitamin D3?

Vitamin D3 deficiency is more common than you may think. Roughly 97% of Canadians are deficient in vitamin D3 at some time during the year. For most of us this would be during the summer months when we do not expose our skin to natural sunlight. This is how the body creates vitamin D3 naturally. With the escalation of the fears associated with skin cancer, we are made to believe that getting a natural suntan is deadly. Nothing could be further than the truth. Scientists are perplexed by their findings that some healthy sun exposure actually helps prevent melanoma! Yes, that’s right. We need sun and Vitamin D3 to prevent cancer, produce our hormones, to metabolize our fats and to help our absorption of calcium. Without Vitamin D3, our body just doesn’t function optimally.

Your body will most likely tell you if your vitamin D3 levels are low. How will you know? You feel down, maybe even depressed. You lack the vital energy you once had, especially during the winter months. So if a sunny vacation is out of the question for you, the next best thing is supplementing with a high quality vitamin D3 in a fat soluble form. VitaTree Vitamin D3 is best taken 3 caps per day in the winter months.

3 Ways to Fight Fat!

Feb 21st, 2012 Posted in alternative medicine, Detoxification, Digestive blogs, health, Nutrition, Uncategorized, vitamins, weight loss, Whole food vitamins, women's health | Comments Off on 3 Ways to Fight Fat!

The battle of the bulge is a constant focus for a number of women and men, who despite their best efforts, have difficulty losing that stubborn weight once and for all. Here are my three tips in terms of supplementation for effective weight loss.

1. Detoxification- helps to eliminate stored toxins from the fat cells. Once the toxins are released, the body no longer has to hold onto excess water and fat to dilute the toxins. See my formula VitaDetox for whole body detoxification, with or without dietary changes, it’s up to you!

2. Fibre- Fibre helps make you feel full, so you can end up eating less. Plus, fibre helps elimination through the bowel. See VitaMucil from VitaTree Nutritionals. High fibre capsules that are easy to swallow with no mixing needed!

3. Calcium and Vitamin D3- Studies show that a calcium and D3 deficiency leads to weight gain and the ability to lose weight is hampered. Calcium should be a whole food calcium, not a tablet or capsule that are usually laded with fillers, binding agents and flow agents. See my Whole Food Coral Calcium.

Strengthening Collagen with Facial Exercises and Yoga

Feb 15th, 2012 Posted in alternative medicine, Detoxification, health, Nutrition, Uncategorized, vitamins, weight loss, Whole food vitamins, women's health | Comments Off on Strengthening Collagen with Facial Exercises and Yoga

As we age, our collagen breaks down slowly and we can start to notice fine lines and wrinkles. Part of this process has to do with an inability of collagen to maintain its integrity and the skin loses moisture. In order to strengthen collagen and elastin, both proteins, it is important to keep the muscles of the face active. When we work out the facial muscles, blood flow increases to the face. If the blood carries along the building blocks for collagen and elastin, there is a greater chance for the cells to continue to produce collagen and elastin efficiently, therefore slowing down the aging process. Also, facial exercises or facial yoga, helps to develop the facial muscles to prevent sagging of the skin and “bulks up” the muscles of the face to maintain their youthful appearance. If you think of lifting weights for your biceps, the muscle builds the more you work it and feed it protein. The same is true for the muscles of the face.

The important building blocks for collagen include sulfur, which helps maintain the bonds in keratin, proteins, like l-lysine, an amino acid necessary for collagen formation and silica, a mineral necessary for the restoration of collagen, which helps anchor glycosaminoglycans (GAG’s) in the cells. GAG’s are needed to draw water into the cells to plump up the skin. We know that dehydrated skin looks older and more wrinkled, but this is avoided when you give the building blocks and the above mentioned nutrients to the skin, internally, from the inside out.

This is why I created the VitaTree Hair, Skin and Nails formula, with the above important nutrients to slow down the aging process and help build collagen and elastin. The formula is made with whole food nutrients, without any added fillers or synthetic nutrients to help the growth of healthy hair, skin and nails.

Mind over Matter- Your Health Depends on It!

Feb 13th, 2012 Posted in alternative medicine, Detoxification, Digestive blogs, health, Nutrition, Uncategorized, vitamins, weight loss, Whole food vitamins, women's health | Comments Off on Mind over Matter- Your Health Depends on It!

Most people fall victim to disease. They think that for some reason, they are the unlucky one that got sick. Whether it is cancer, heart disease, stroke, auto-immune disease, or any other terrible and life-changing illness. The truth is, we have more control over what diseases we manifest in our bodies than we think.

Every thought we have is either a positive or negative one. The more positive thoughts we have, the healthier we will be. The more negative thoughts we have, the less healthy we will be. The worst thing we can do is fear a particular disease or condition. As soon as you can envision that disease happening to you, you fear it and dread it, you are one step closer to having that disease.

The media doesn’t help in this area. Everyday we are bombarded with fear tactics of avoiding cancer, heart disease, the flu etc. We need to be mindful of our thoughts and not be led into creating these ailments in our bodies.

You need to crowd out negative thoughts with positive ones. Positive affirmations can help. Tell yourself “I am perfectly healthy, I have a strong healthy body.”

Always be proactive with your health. Don’t wait for a terrible diagnosis from your doctor. Do what you can to eat right, exercise, breathe and meditate and supplement when needed with high quality whole food vitamins.

Women Taking Synthetic Vitamins Have Increased Risk of Dying from Heart Disease and Cancer

Synthetic Vitamins are Toxic

Synthetic Vitamins are Toxic

According to the Archives of Internal Medicine, older women who take synthetic vitamins are at an increased risk of dying from cardiovascular disease and cancer. Women who took multivitamins, vitamin B6, folic acid, iron, magnesium, zinc and copper were associated with increased risk of death.

The authors of the study suggested that women get their nutrients from foods, especially fruits and vegetables. Unfortunately, most of us do not consume enough of these nutrients. This is one of the main reasons I developed VitaFruits and VitaVeggies for VitaTree Nutritionals.

VitaFruits and VitaVeggies are whole food vitamins, meaning all the nutrients are derived directly from nature, in the form of high ORAC containing fruits and vegetables like Goji berries, Acai, pomegranate, blueberries and Moringa. The VitaFruits contains 14 fruits plus green tea, and the VitaVeggies, 9 vegetables plus green tea! Individually, a number of these superfoods have anti-cancer and cardiovascular benefits, but in my secret proprietary formulation, the combined benefits of these special fruits and vegetables is outstanding and confers the best health benefits.

I never recommend synthetic vitamins to my patients or family, and I suggest you do your research as to how synthetic vitamins differ in their effectiveness, absorption and safety. Whole food vitamins are far superior and do not have the health risks associated with synthetic nutrients.

Is it Safe to Detox?

Feb 6th, 2012 Posted in Acid Reflux, acne, adult acne, allergies, alternative medicine, Detoxification, Digestive blogs, health, Nutrition, Uncategorized, vitamins, weight loss, Whole food vitamins, women's health | Comments Off on Is it Safe to Detox?

A number of people have asked me over the years if it is safe to detox. It really does depend on the type of detox protocol that is used and for how long. I always recommend a detoxification protocol that addresses all the internal organs such as the liver, lungs, digestive tract, kidneys and skin. A detox protocol should be gentle, yet effective at cleansing these organs. I do not recommend detoxes specific to only one organ system as you can do more harm than good in this case.

For example, if you choose to do a liver cleanse and your bowels are not eliminating properly, you can run into difficulties because the toxins are being flushed out of the liver and into an organ system that is not efficient. This can be a dangerous situation and is not recommended.

I developed the VitaDetox for VitaTree Nutritionals to eliminate toxins from all the internal at once, to avoid the problem of shifting toxins to an organ that may not be ready to eliminate them. VitaDetox is a formulation that minimizes any of the negative side effects of doing the detox in the first place due to this reason, that it is working on all the organs at once. It is also revolutionary in that it contains whole food anti-oxidants, VitaFruits and VitaVeggies to help quench free radicals during the detox process. This is why VitaDetox works so well and so quickly, without any side effects like diarrhea, gas or cramping.

You need to detox if you have any of the following concerns:

-overweight
-gas, bloating
-headaches
-eczema, psoriasis, acne
-PMS, menopausal symptoms
-constipation, diarrhea
-frequent colds/flues
-polycystic ovaries, endometriosis
-depression
-fatigue
-difficulty conceiving
-hair loss
-and much more!
