Irritable Bowel Syndrome or IBS is a common and uncomfortable condition for many. The symptoms of IBS include irregular bowel movements, often oscillating between constipation and diarrhea. Stress plays a big role in IBS. Also, a deficiency in good gut bacteria can be a cause for IBS. Be sure to supplement daily with a high quality human microflora for the best defense against IBS. Tylenol Recall-Natural Alternatives

With the recent recall on Tylenol and Motrin products for children and infants, it makes you wonder how safe these products really are, whether for children or adults. I have cautioned my patients for years against using these products because they often mask and slow down the body’s natural healing process. For instance a fever is a healthy response to fighting an infection in the body. If the fever is suppressed with a medicine like Tylenol or Motrin, the body takes longer to fight off the offending bacteria or virus. There are also toxicity issues for the liver and kidneys with using these common over the counter pain killers. There are better, safer natural alternative. Use fish oils as a natural anti-inflammatory for pain and inflammation. Probiotics (good bacteria) are the best preventative medicine for infections as they ward off bad bacteria by crowding them out of the system. I’m often asked by many women why, if there are so many wonderful, effective natural remedies for menopause, their doctors are not telling them. The truth is, most doctors don’t even know about them. If they do know, they are skeptical that the herbs have not been tested thoroughly. Again, another misconception as many of the herbs for menopause have been tested in human studies for years in Europe. Herbs such as Chasteberry and Black Cohosh have a long, positive track record. They can help with hot flashes, night sweats, irritability, insomnia, and vaginal dryness. See my formula VitaWomen’s Formula from VitaTree Nutritionals as a natural solution for menopause.

One Food to Eliminate to Decrease Cholesterol

What one food can you eliminate from your diet and see a dramatic reduction in your cholesterol? Sugar is the answer. Whether it is table sugar, glucose, fructose, and/or high fructose corn syrup, it is important to eliminate or drastically reduce this non-food from the diet to improve cholesterol levels. Most of my patients assume that it is the meats, saturated animal fats and cholesterol containing foods like eggs and shrimp that increase cholesterol. I find however that sugar consumption increases total cholesterol levels. Watch out for VitaTree’s Cholesterol Formula, soon to be launched in Canada.

Heartburn and stomach ulcers are often caused from a deficiency of good bacteria, or probiotics in the intestinal tract. Good bacteria have the ability to protect us from bad bacteria such as H.Pylori, E. coli, parasites and fungi. It is important to supplement with human strains of probiotics daily to make sure you have a strong army of the good guys to ward off the bad bacteria when you may ingest them.

The Dairy Debate

Many think that dairy products will help them to stave off osteoporosis because it contains a lot of calcium. Actually, dairy products do contain calcium, but it is not often well absorbed. Maintaining healthy bones has more to do with decreasing calcium loss from the body. The way to decrease the loss of calcium from our bones is to ensure we do not consume too many acidic forming foods and caffeine.
Coffee and soft drinks increase the calcium loss from our bodies. The best alkaline foods are raw fruits and vegetables. You can also take supplements like VitaFruits and VitaVeggies that have an alkalinizing effect on the body, keeping your calcium where it should be, in your bones!

Jump Start Weight Loss with Detox

You can certainly jump start your weight loss regime with detoxification of the major internal organs including the liver, lungs, kidneys, digestive tract and skin. Our body accumulates toxins from the air we breathe, the food and water we drink and the vast number of environmental pollutants in our surroundings. It is very important that we detoxify at least four times per year, at the change of each season. In terms of weight loss, our body stores excess water and fat to attempt to dilute the toxins in our bodies as a protective mechanism. Lose the toxins, lose the weight. Be sure to choose a detox formula that gently addresses the detoxification of all the internal organs like my own formulation VitaDetox for VitaTree Nutritionals.
For more detailed info on detoxification and weight loss read my book The Healthy Millionaire.

Natural Remedies for Heartburn and Acid Reflux

May 12th, 2010 Posted in Acid Reflux, Detoxification, health, men's health, Nutrition, safe vitamins, Uncategorized, vitamins, women's health | Comments Off on Natural Remedies for Heartburn and Acid Reflux

The number of people who suffer from acid reflux or GERD and/or heartburn is staggering. Unfortunately the conventional medications called Proton Pump Inhibitors or PPI’s have serious side effects. Prevacid, Nexium and Pantaloc fall into this group of medicines. These PPI’s cause an increased risk in fractures and a nasty gastro-intestinal infection caused by a harmful bacteria called Clostridium difficile. Fortunately, natural medicine can help heartburn and acid reflux in a much less invasive way. Probiotics from a human source are the answer. Often people suffering from these symptoms have a deficiency of good bacteria in their digestive tracts. This imbalance then between good and bad bacteria can cause a whole host of digestive issues, including IBS, constipation, diarrhea and acid reflux. Probiotics are the good bacteria that help to crowd out the bad organisms in the digestive tract and often can solve the problem of acid reflux. For more info go to www.vitatree.ca.

Is Milk Really that Good for You?

May 11th, 2010 Posted in alternative medicine, health, men's health, Uncategorized, vitamins, Whole food vitamins, women's health | Comments Off on Is Milk Really that Good for You?

The dairy board would certainly have you believing that milk and other dairy products are healthy for all of us. This couldn’t be further from the truth. Most people over the age of 2 have difficulty digesting dairy products. The reason for this is that our natural enzyme lactase decreases as we age. We have lactase to digest our mother’s breast milk and once we’re finished breastfeeding, our lactase decreases naturally. This is why so many people are diagnosed with lactose intolerance. The other argument that often presents itself is the whole calcium and osteoporosis issue. Yes, there is calcium in dairy products, however it is not usually used very well by the body to strengthen the bones. Strong bones have more to do with preventing the loss of calcium from the bones. This is a chemistry issue. Calcium comes out of the bones to buffer the blood when the blood is too acidic. What makes the blood too acidic? Proteins, such as dairy products. This is one of the reasons that there is more osteoporosis in dairy consuming countries, as opposed to countries that consume no dairy at all!
To maintain healthy bones, make sure you consume an alkalinizing diet and take only whole food vitamins that are not too high in calcium. Synthetic calcium supplements can actually send a signal to your body to remove calcium from the bones! For more info read my book, The Healthy Millionaire.

Many men have a fear of developing prostate problems, and with good reason. The Canadian Cancer Society states: “Prostate cancer is the most common cancer among Canadian men (excluding non-melanoma skin cancer). On average, 490 Canadian men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer every week.” These statistics are frightening. Men need to take matters into their own hands in terms of prevention. Thankfully nature provides natural prevention and treatment options for men. Herbs such as Saw Palmetto and Nettle improve the health of the prostate. Probiotics are also essential to treat the dysbiosis or imbalance in the good and bad bacteria in the prostate. VitaTree Nutritionals will soon be launching their VitaMen’s Formula, which not only helps prevent and treat prostate disease, but also increases the libido.
